Serving Jesus by serving "the least of these" - Matthew 25:40
Well, this is a tough verse. I want to focus on the word “approve”. Christian circles are not immune to sin. After a listing a number of sins, the author of Romans points out that it is not just a sin to commit these acts, but also to approve of them, or allowing them. In today’s society, too many Christians have accepted various sins as the accepted norm and have not taken a stand for biblical truth.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that we always need to be looking for a fight. I am not saying we are to be constantly pointing out the sin in someone’s life, remember, we need to work on our own. What I am saying is that when it is appropriate, we need to make it known that something is not ok. We cannot give a pass because of who someone is, or what good they have done. This is actually disrespectful and unloving towards the one caught up in sin, as even a pass can be seen as not only our approval but also biblical approval. This would amount to false teaching and actually draw others away from the truth of God’s Word.
As believers, let us always stand by the truth. Let us never give even tacit approval to something that is wrong. Doing so makes us just as guilty of committing the sin. Let us be aware that even in Christian circles, sin can creep in. As we stand in the truth, let us also stand in love. Instead of being known as looking for a fight, let us be known for speaking the truth in love out of an attitude of care. This is not to imply that there will never be tough moments, but it does imply that it will be God-honoring and God-blessed. This is what He will “approve” of.
